PRLog (Press Release) - Sep 02, 2011 - A ŠKODA is now the fastest production car in the world, sporting a charged engine with a 2 litre displacement. At 365 kilometres per hour or 227.07 miles per hour, the Octavia vRS Bonneville Special model achieved the new record in the course of high-speed drives in the American salt desert at Bonneville in the U.S. ferrari state of Utah. Only a few days after the high performance vehicle had exceeded the 200 mile speed threshold on the same track, the 600 hp strong ŠKODA racer reached the new record on 19 August, 2011, at 7:45 a.m. local time. The previous speed record in the category "G/PS" had been 347 kilometres per hour or 216 miles per hour and dated back to the year 1998. The car was driven by Briton Richard Meaden as part of the Bonneville Speed Week (13 – 20 August, 2011). In an impressive manner, Meaden was able to accelerate the Octavia a total of six times to more than 200 miles per hour on the five kilometre long track.

Robert Hazelwood, the director of ŠKODA UK, was more than satisfied: "That is a fantastic result, which we did not anticipate in this fashion. Our goal was to smash the 200 mile mark on the speedometer. Now we have set a new record and have clearly exceeded our goal. This result is the achievement of the people who have spent the last couple of weeks and months working tirelessly to prepare the vehicle for the drives at Bonneville. We are all very proud."
