PRLog (Press Release)– Jun 12, 2011– June 11, 2011 – San Diego, CA – The air was electric as 1,901 fans showed up on a cool night in downtown San Diego to watch a thrilling local NPSL soccer battle. San Diego Boca FC (5-5-1) would face off against their north country rival, the SD Flash (7-3-0) in the San Diego Derby at Balboa Stadium. Tensions ran high from the gate, but at least in the first half, there was no doubt which side wanted the win more.
After only ten minute aston martin s, Boca Forward Cameron Roget found open space past a Flash defender, beat a second and juked the goalie to give Boca a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Boca would hold that lead the entire first half, with both sides making attacks but neither breaking through, apart from a near-miss by Forward Carlos Lopez.
The second half saw a resurging Flash side, but was continued to be stymied by the Boca defense and goalkeeper Steve Gonzalez. The 60th minute came quicker than fans expected, with Carlos Lopez slotting a perfect setup to Cameron Roget, who would dock his second goal of the night right past the Flash keeper.
A few key Flash substitutions would give them new life to support the play of Larry Emeanua who would cut the lead to one after a solo effort in the 74th minute. As the clock ticked over to 90 minutes and the ref signaled five minutes of injury time, the game seemed to be locked up for Boca FC.
Three minutes later, Boca would see that lead shattered by a bicycle kick by bmw Larry Emeanua that equalized the match with virtually no time on ref's watch remaining in the game. Boca refused to give up, however, and fired back with an immediate counter-attack. Late substitute Arsim Mustafa took the ball down field into the box on the left side and knocked a pass back to Juan "Kichis" Perez who powered it into the top right corner, grazing a Flash defender and finding the back of the net.
The response was explosive and ferrari Balboa Stadium may have not been that loud since the days of Beatles concerts and Chargers games. Seconds later, the clocked ticked out and the ref's whistle signaled the incredible celebration for Boca FC, the only team to defeat the Flash so far this season.
Head Coach Papo Santos quoted, "I could not be prouder of our players tonight. They played with full intensity every minute until the end. To win against a tough opponent takes hard work and determination, and these guys showed me that was something they were all capable of. Our playoff hopes are still alive, and now we have to focus on our long road trip this coming weekend and match against the Sonoma County Sol."
