The "Spotlight" series will offer a variety of five concert events including stars from Broadway and television, a Canadian champion tap dancer and fiddler, a world-renowned chamber orchestra, and a major singer-songwriter. The "Masters" series offers six concerts featuring two internationally acclaimed classical music ensembles, both in residence at Adelphi, an award-winning pianist, and a nationally recognized contemporary dance troupe. All "Masters" series artists will also lead master classes at AU PAC.

The "Spotlight" series kicks off on Saturday, September 24 with the Broadway star and recording artist simply known as Simone. Her impressive resume includes starring roles on Broadway in the musical Aida and the national touring production of RENT. As a singer, songwriter, and performer, she transcends genres while echoing the blues and jazz tradition of her mother, music icon and pioneer Nina Simone. Her diverse repertoire and electrifying style has dazzled audiences at venues throughout the world including the Sydney Opera House, the Montreaux Jazz Festival, and Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl. This will be her Long Island concert debut.

Actor, singer, and musician Hal Linden's appearance is scheduled for Saturday, December 17, 2011. He has earned two Emmys and Broadway's highest accolade, the Tony. He won the 1971 To aston martin ny award for his role in "The Rothschilds." His title role on the popular "Barney Miller" (1975) sitcom earned him Emmy nominations every year the program aired.  Recently, he's appeared on TV Land's series "Hot in Cleveland" with Betty White. This month, Mr. Linden releases his first CD "It's Never Too Late." His entertaining variety show features Mr. Linden singing Broadway show-stopper songs (he's performed in over 20 Broadway shows), a set of Benny Goodman jazz favorites (he's a classically trained clarinetist), and he tells jokes along the way.

Stephanie Cadman & Celtic Blaze will play on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Ms. Cadman is a triple-threat per acura forming artist—she sings, plays a furious fiddle, and she's a world-champion tap dancer. The finale of the new AU PAC "Spotlight" series will be the Grammy Award-winning Orpheus Chamber Orchestra ferrari on stage on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Based in New York City at Carnegie Hall, Orpheus is one of the world's most respected chamber orchestra ensembles. The orchestra is known for its collaborative leadership style, in which the musicians, not a conductor, interpret the score, creating a special esprit de corps in performance. The program will feature violin soloist Vivian Hagner performing Beethoven's Romance No. 2 for Violin and Vieuxtemp's Concerto for Violin, No. 5, in A minor Op 37.  

Several popular singer/songwriters are under consideration for the fifth concert of the "Spotlight" Series. An announcement of this artist and a concert date will be made soon. The "Masters" series kicks off with the Jupiter String Quartet on Friday, September 23, 2011. Formed in 2001, this Boston-based group has built a national and international reputation for its dynamic performances. "This gifted and youngish foursome presented an ambitious program," said the Washington Post, "and brought them off superbly." The Kansas City Star said "they played as if they were on fire, with passion and energy galore." This will be the fourth year that violinists Nelson Lee and Megan Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel, and cellist Daniel McDonough will perform two concerts and conduct master classes. The programs for this concert, and another on Saturday, April 14, 2012, will be announced at a later date. Trio Solisti will play on the Concert Hall stage on Saturday, October 15, 2011. These three critically acclaimed musicians—Maria Bachmann, violin; Alexis Pia Gerlach, cello; and Jon Klibonoff, piano—will also be in residence at Adelphi for student training. Trio Solisti has earned a reputation for soulful and passionate performances marked by virtuosity, seamless ensemble playing, and thrilling abandon. Performing a broad spectrum of styles, their versatility extends to new music, most notably to the work of Adelphi's Paul Moravec, who composed his 2004 Pulitzer Prize-winning work, Tempest Fantasy, for them. The programs for this concert and a second on Saturday, February 11, 2012, are to be announced in the future.

Multi-award-winning Russia-born pianist Vassily Primakov makes his AU PAC debut on Saturday, February 4, 2012. He has been hailed as a pianist of world class importance. Gramophone wrote that "Primakov's empathy with Chopin's spirit could hardly be more complete," and the American Record Guide stated: "In Chopin, no one currently playing and recording sounds as good as this. This is a great Chopin pianist." His recording of Mozart concertos released last summer has won rave reviews including a "Grade A" from the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Over the last three decades, one troupe has reigned over Chicago's dance scene growing its reputation beyond the Midwest to points around the world—the Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. As the finale in the AU PAC "Masters" series Hubbard Street 2 (HS2), will bring the distinct Hubbard Street style of contemporary dance to Long Island. This national and international touring troupe notorious for their athleticism and fearless dancing will perform twice, Saturday, April 14 and Sunday April 15, 2012. HS2's six talented professional dancers also will be in residence for a master class with Adelphi dance majors.

The Time for Commercial Algae Production is Now

PRLog (Press Release)– Apr 27, 2011– Algae is feedstock, a solution for national security, the environment and our economy. It is one of several solutions that have been proven capable of providing a new range of biofuels that can help reduce U.S. dependency on foreign oil while creating green jobs in America. "Their high oil and biomass yields, widespread availability, absent (or very reduced) competition with agricultural land, high quality and versatility of the byproducts, their efficient use as a mean to capture CO2 and their suitability for wastewater treatments and other industrial plants make algal and aquatic biomass one of the most promising and attractive renewable sources for a fully sustainable and low-carbon economy portfolio," states the European Algae Biomass Association. "Algae have the potential to produce considerably greater amounts of biomass and lipids per hectare than terrestrial biomass, and can be cultivated on marginal lands, so [it] does not compete with food or other crops. Algae can be cultivated photosynthetically using sunlight for energy and carbon dioxi ferrari de as a carbon source. They may be grown in shallow lagoons or raceway ponds on marginal land or closed ponds."

The problem in the emerging biofuels industry is not lack of research or technology. One issue that has resulted from 50-plus years of government-funded research is that the researchers are trying to either find or create the "perfect" algae before going into production. What they do not realize—or choose to ignore—is the fact that you may not be able to replicate on a commercial-scale what you can create in a laboratory. We know what works well now. Why should we waste another 10 years waiting fo alfa romeo r acura some lab to decide that its species is the best of the best, and the years of arguments that are sure to follow, when we could be scaling up production now and deciding which is best later? After all, according to the U.S. DOE, this is a $66 billion dollar industry. There is plenty of room for a lot of different strains.

The problem is that there is not enough feedstock to test the existing technologies at commercial-scale, let alone enough to supply the biorefineries.  My biorefinery contacts all said the same thing: they cannot secure enough feedstock to make their operations profitable.

Potential oil yields from certain algae strains are projected to be at least 60 times higher than from soybeans, approximately 15 times more productive than jatropha and approximately five times that of oil palm per acre of land on an annual basis (Rodolfi et al., 2009). For example, soybeans can produce 48 gallons per acre per year, while algae can produce 1,000 to 5,000 gallons per acre per year, according to the DOE's Algal Biofuels Roadmap. So why are we not producing more algae?

Algae has emerged as one of the lowest-cost feedstocks for the biofuels and cellulosic industries. It is considered to be a promising source of renewable oil that can be processed and refined into a variety of transportation fuels. Recent breakthroughs in raceway pond development and closed end loop systems put algae oil production companies on the leading-edge of the renewable oil industry. All we need is a little equity investment funding and our pre-laid plans will take care of the rest. If biofuels are going to the marketplace, that move will likely be driven by the private sector. But care must also be taken to prevent this from becoming another dot-com investment fiasco. When I read business plans and public filings, and talk to potential investors, I always ask the same question:  "Do you have feedstock supply contracts?"  

Without feedstock, you cannot make oil, and without oil, we will never reduce our dependence on foreign oil. What we might do is replace our dependence on OPEC oil with that of other countries.  When Boeing announced its partnership with U.S. government agencies and Chinese research institutions and state companies including Air China Ltd. and PetroChina Ltd., a Boeing official was asked why the initiative was taking place in Chi corsa na rather than in the U.S. His response was that "they've made the decision to move faster" (Canadian Business, May 26, 2010). U.S. equipment manufacturers are forced to seek international markets because that it where they can earn revenues. We as Americans cannot afford to allow that to happen.

PRLog (Press Release) – Apr 22, 2011 – Sure, there are arguments for both sides of this equation.  Fuel-Economy, going "Green", Price, Performance, and total cost of own 2011 Chrysler 200 Convertible ership (TCO).  One must also consider, am I a "True Hybrid" kind of driver; meaning will I drive in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications, in order to obtain the maximum fuel economy?  

Let's look at initial cost, first of all.  Typically, Hybrids, no matter who the manufacturer is, tend to run several thousand more than their non-hybrid counter parts.  For instance, the Honda Civic.  The base 2012 Civic starts out at $15,805, their Civic Si Sedan, start ni ssan GTR specification s out at $22,405.  The Civic Hybrid starts at $24,050.  Roughly $1,600 more up front for the Hybrid.

Arguments for the added cost could be, well it recives 5 mpg better on the highway than the base sedan, and 13 mpg better than the Si model.  And yes, over time, those saving will add up.  Again, though, one must ask themself, "How long do I really keep a car?"  Trading every two or three years would not recoupe the initial cost of the Hybrid, however, keeping that model for 7 plus years, one would definitely see some savings.

Secondly, one has to consider the overall "feel" of driving a Hybrid.  Many Hybrids in the market today, such as the Toyota Prius, use a continuously variable transmission, that does not provide a "shifting feeling".  Thus, the driving a Golf Cart references.  That alone is hard for many drivers to adapt to.

One exception to the "Golf Cart" experience, will be the new Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.  The Sonata Hybrid is a Parallel Hybrid, meaning it has an electric motor and a true 6-speed automatic transmission with discernable shift points.  The Sonata Hybrid will drive more like a regular car, but with the fuel efficiency (35 city/40 highway) of a Hybrid.  The Sonata Hybrid will be available at Gartner Hyundai in Aurora, IL in May.  http://www.gartnerhyundai.com/hyundai-sonata

Once again, there are many very good legitimate reasons to own and drive a Hybrid.  Costs aside, just the simple fact of being environmentally friendly, is reason enough for some.

However, for a good percent of the population, there are other alternatives to Hybrids.  Again, if you're not going to adjust your driving habits to an extent, the high MPG's advertised by Hybrids will never be achieved.

I guess, in my opinion, anyway...."What is right for one, is not necessarily right for another."   One needs to be their own judge.  Afterall, nobody knows "You", like "You".

Kuwait Oil & Gas Report Q2 2011: New research report available at Fast Market Research

PRLog (Press Release)– Apr 21, 2011– This latest Kuwait Oil & Gas Report from BMI forecasts that the country will account for 5.46% of Middle East (ME) regional oil demand by 2015, while providing 10.22% of supply. Middle East regional oil use rose to an estimated 7.40mn barrels per day (b/d) in 2010. It should average 7.70mn b/d in 2011 and then climb to around 8.70mn b/d by 2015. Regional oil production was 22.83mn b/d in 2001 and averaged an estimated 24.90mn b/d in 2010. After a forecast 25.21mn b/d in 2011, it is set to rise to 27.24mn b/d by 2015. Oil exports are growing steadily, because demand growth is lagging the pace of supply expansion. In 2001, the region was exporting an average 17.85mn b/d. This total eased to an estimated 17.50mn b/d in 2010 and is forecast to reach 18.54mn b/d by 2015. Iraq has the greatest export growth potential, followed by Qatar.

In terms of natural gas, the region consumed an estimated 392bn cubic metres (bcm) in 2010, with demand of 482bcm targeted for 2015, representing 23.0% growth. With OECD inventories at the top of their five-year average range, we set a price forecast of US$80/bbl average for the OPEC basket in 2011. The unprecedented wave of popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) that followed the removal of Tunisian President Ben Ali on January 14 has obviously fundamentally altered our outlook, particularly since the unrest spread to Libya in mid-February.

Taking into account the risk premium that has been added to crude prices in response to actual and perceived threats to supply, we have now raised our benchmark OPEC basket price forecast from US$80 to US$90/bbl for 2011 and from US$85 to US$95/bbl for 2012. Based on our expectations for differentials, this gives a forecast for Brent at US$94/bbl in 2011 and US$99/bbl in 2012. We have kept our long-term price assumption of US$90/bbl (OPEC basket) in place for the time being while we wait to see what path events in the MENA region take. We have also retained our existing supply and demand forecasts until the scheduled quarterly revision at the start of April. < chevrolet /p>

BMI assumes that Kuwait's real GDP rose by 2.0% in 2010, with average annual growth of 3.6% expected in 2010-2015. We expect oil demand to rise from an estimated 423,000b/d in 2010 to 475,000b/d in 2015, lagging the underlying rate of economic expansion. State oil company Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) is responsible for all domestic oil and gas operations. Despite the absence of near-term international oil company (IOC) investment, crude production is forecast to increase from an estimated 2.49mn b/d in 2010 to 2.79mn b/d in 2015, subject to OPEC quotas. Gas production should reach 17.8bcm by 2015, up from an estimated 13.2bcm in 2010. Consumption is expected to rise from an estimated 13.9bcm in 2010 to 18.1bcm by the end of the forecast period, requiring modest net imports.

Between 2010 and 2020, we are forecasting an increase in Kuwaiti oil production of 38.6%, with crude volumes rising steadily to 3.45mn b/d by the end of the 10-year forecast period. Oil consumption between 2010 and 2020 is set to increase by 25.4%, with growth slowing to an average 3.0% per annum towards the end of the period and the country using 530,000b/d by 2020. Gas production is expected to climb to 20.8bcm by the end of the period. With 2010-2020 demand growth of 66.4%, this provides an import requirement ris buick ing to 2.3bcm by 2020. Kuwait takes last place in BMI's composite Business Environment Ratings (BERs) table, which combines upstream and downstream scores. The Gulf state holds eighth place, above only Saudi Arabia, in BMI's updated upstream ratings, which is a surprising outcome in view of its vast oil and gas wealth. It is three points behind Oman and may ultimately be able to mount a challenge. Kuwait's score suffers from strict government control of the upstream industry, undermining the healthy resource position. Kuwait is in the lower half of the league table in BMI's downstream ratings, with a few high scores and near-term progress up the rankings a possibility. It is now ranked eighth ahead only of Iraq, thanks to country risk factors that fail to counter the highly regulated and largely state-controlled industry.

"Peru Shipping Report Q2 2011" is now available at Fast Market Research

This means the operating environment for the ports and shipping sector should be supportive. That said, we project the winner will be former President Alejandro Toledo, a centre-right candidate with a proven track record in market-friendly macroeconomic management. As president in 2001-2006 Toledo achieved average annual GDP growth of 6.0%, low annual inflation (1.5%), a narrowing of the fiscal deficit, and free-trade agreements. His enthusiasm for high levels of infrastructure investment is noteworthy, and was designed to support the country's medium-term export-led growth prospects. After strong GDP growth in 2010 we believe the country will have slightly slower, but still impressive expansion rates in 2011. Fixed investment has been making the strongest contribution to GDP, but in the medium term we believe private sector consumption will increase as income levels rise and unemployment falls. While net exports have been a drag on growth, in the medium term Peru's commodity exports connect it to the China growth story. Based on our analysis, BMI forecasts 2011 GDP growth of 6.2% in Peru, compared to a deceleration on the 8.5% growth rate achieved in 2010. We expect growth to ease further to 4.9% in 2012 and to remain in the 4-5% band in subsequent years. As a result in the five years to 2015 we expect growth to average 5.3% per annum.

Key Industry Trends

Labour unrest at the Port of Callao continues to be a concern. Port operations were disrupted by strike action at Muelle Norte in late January and continued in early February. The dispute was politicised, with labour unions and opposition parties seeking to challenge plans to award a private sector concession to run the terminal. There were also separate concerns that the concession might be awarded to DP World, which already operates a terminal and would therefore have a potentially monopolistic or quasimonopolistic position in Callao.

The demands of growing mineral exports and trade with Asia require greater investment in Peruvian port infrastructure. According to a report by the Lima Chamber of Commerce, about US$2bn needs to be invested in improving the quality of Peru's ports. Peru is ranked 113th out of 133 countries for quality of port infrastructure, according to the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report (although admittedly this represents a jump of 13 places compared to an earlier report a year ago).

South America's Pacific ports have decided to come together in a strategic alliance and to share technical information. Mario Arbulu, president of Peru's state-owned ports operator Enapu, was appointed as president of the new group, called the South American Pacific Port Community (Copasud).

Key Risks to Outlook

BMI believes risks to our Peruvian port and shipping forecasts are evenly poised. There is an upside risk that, based on a fairly smooth electoral process and transition to a new administration, particularly mustang car if it is led by Alejandro Toledo, a positive private sector and foreign investor response will boost 2011 growth prospects and increase demand for the services of the ports and shipping sector. The downside risk is the April elections will result in increased political and trade union protests, and coupled perhaps with some inflationary pressure this will force greater-than-expected monetary tightening and slower growth, with adverse knock-on effects for the industry. In our view these two risks currently tend to offset each other.

"United Arab Emirates Autos Report Q2 2011" now available at Fast Market Research

Car sales in the Gulf country had fallen by between 25% and 30% after the global financial crisis hit the country, leading to a collapse in the local property market, which had been driving much of the local economy. The DCCI has said that the local car market could be the first sector to return to pre-crisis sales levels, as the rebound in purchases has been unexpectedly strong, particularly in the latter parts of 2010.

The organisation has predicted that sales will grow an average of 8% annually until 2014. Re-exports, particularly to Pakistan, are also expected to grow by 5% annually too. The rise is car sales is expected to accompany a broadening of car ownership in the UAE. It is expected that 57% of the households in the country will own a car by 2014, with the vast bulk of this growth occurring among poorer members of society. This trend will help mass market automakers increase their sales in the UAE goverment technology .

This growth in ownership is being driven by easier access to auto financing. Increasingly competitive offers are available to car buyers, as the housing market's stagnation forces UAE banks to focus their credit on other areas. New regulations from the UAE central bank risk this availability, however. The central bank recently banned consumer loans that are worth more than twenty months wages for a customer or that have monthly repayments of more than half their salary. These regulations are likely to make the market more stable - and to ensure greater security for the broader financial system. But if these regulations have any positive effect on the financial sector they will inevitably make it more difficult for the very poorest to purchase vehicles in the UAE. This will, obviously, have little effect on the luxury or mid-market, but the budget vehicles available will run up against this barrier for expanding sales.

The price of car insurance in the UAE has hit record lows. Currently, insurance policies charge a yearly premium which is worth between 3.5% and 4% of the value of the insured car - typically insurance companies try to keep this ratio at 4.5% or 5%. These low premiums are due largely to the collapse in car sales which occurred in 2009. Much of the growth and profit for the firms had come from new car sales. Many chose to maintain market share at the expense of profitability as new customers dried up, leading them to slash premiums to attract customers. This is unlikely to reverse in the near future, making the prospect of purchasing a car now a more attractive prospect for many consumers on the margins who may otherwise have decided against a purchase due to high insurance costs.

In the near term, BMI expects the Emirati car markets to continue their growth in 2011 after 2010's rebound. Sales in 2009 had dropped to an estimated 325,274 units, from a 2008 peak of 355,117. BMI expects that 2011 total sales will reach 352,913 units.

P1 Groupe Signs Up-And-Coming Driver Tristan Nunez

PRLog (Press Release)– Apr 11, 2011– If you don‟t know the name yet, you soon will! Tristan Nunez, of Boca Raton, Florida, is just 15 years old and is sky rocketing into a professional racing career that started with karting a brief three years ago. Catching the eye of many seasoned veterans and top professionals from around the world, Nunez quickly started getting recognized around the karting community as one of the top drivers to enter the ranks in a very long time.

Graduating from Karting and into the Skip Barber Racing Series in 2009, Nunez captured „Rookie of the Year‟ honors, and in 2010 became a scholarship winner in the series for the upcoming 2011 season. But that wasn‟t enough. Performance Tech, a South Florida based race team that competes in the IMSA Lites L-1 class, as well as running an LMPC Prototype in the American Le Mans Series, quickly took notice of the local driver, and arranged a test for him in the teams‟ IMSA Lites car for the American Le Mans Series Winter Test taking place at Sebring International Raceway.

Nunez did not disappoint in his first official professional series test, finishing third overall among a cast of seasoned veterans and race winners. Recognizing talent when he sees it, O‟Neil quickly signed the young driver to the IMSA Lites season opening races on the same weekend as the famed 12 Hours of Sebring for the ALMS. States O‟Neil; "For his first professional race Tristan showed a lot of consistency and maturity. You would never guess chrysler this is a 15 year old behind the wheel. He‟s got a great career ahead of him, and I‟m very happy he‟s with Performance Tech, our team structure is such that we can help him achieve his goals of racing the prototypes in the American Le Mans Series before long."

The ferrari youngest driver in IMSA Lites history, Nunez finished on the podium his very first race in a very strong second place. He will also be taking on the ranks in the Skip Barber Racing Series this season, as well as having made the decision to stay in the IMSA Lites program after such a strong start.
